- Tenure-Stream Assistant Professor in Geography
Description
The Geography Department at Colgate University invites applications for a tenure-stream position in climate science at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning fall semester 2027. Our department is vibrant, growing, and interdisciplinary, with strengths across the discipline of geography. We seek a climate scientist whose research uses geospatial analysis to study cutting-edge topics. These might include ones centered in physical geography, such as atmospheric circulation, surface-atmosphere interactions, or extreme weather/climate events, or ones that engage directly with human-environment concerns, such as urban climates, climate injustice, or climate impacts on vulnerable and marginalized populations. Completion of a Ph.D. in Geography, Climate Science, Earth System Science, Atmospheric Science, or a related discipline prior to or shortly after the date of hire is required. Teaching and/or postdoctoral research experience will be considered advantageous.
Teaching duties will include offering introductory and advanced courses in climate science, physical geography, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The successful candidate will also fulfill the expectation that all Colgate faculty participate in all-university programs, including the Liberal Arts Core Curriculum [LINK HERE], and may have opportunities to develop or lead off-campus study programs.
We invite applicants to submit a cover letter that addresses how their teaching and research interests align with this position, a C.V., and names and contact information for three individuals prepared to write letters on their behalf, which must be submitted through Interfolio at https://apply.interfolio.com/189175. More details regarding preparation of your application materials can be found on the department website [LINK HERE]. As Colgate strives to be a community supportive of diverse perspectives and identities [LINK HERE], applicants in their cover letter must also describe their ability to teach and work effectively with students across a wide range of identities and backgrounds. Review of applications will begin September 15, 2026 and continue until the position is filled. Letters of recommendation, and teaching and research statements will be solicited for candidates who advance beyond the initial review stage.
