The Department of Geography, Geology, and Planning houses 21 full time faculty (18 ranked faculty) spanning a broad range of expertise and interests across the disciplines it houses. There are 12 faculty supporting the Geography, Geospatial Sciences, and Planning programs. The Department grants undergraduate degrees in Geology, Geography, Planning, and Geospatial Science; an M.S. in Geography and Geology; and a broad array of certificate programs. Additionally, we participate in interdisciplinary graduate programs in Applied Science and Environmental Management. In addition to OEWRI, the department also houses the Center for Resource Planning and Management.

Company History
Missouri State University was founded in 1905 as the Fourth District Normal School. During its early years, the institution’s primary purpose was preparing teachers for the public school systems in the southwest region of Missouri. Over the years the name of the university has changed several times to reflect the growth of the institution and the evolution of the university's mission. In 1995 Southwest Missouri State University was bestowed as the state's public affairs institution by the Missouri General Assembly. In 2005 the institution was re-named Missouri State University, reflecting its enrollment of tens of thousands of students, as well as higher admissions standards than other state universities and the breadth of its graduate programs.
